Information and Directions:
Wat Tang Sai,(วัดทางสาย) also known incorrectly as Wat Thong Chai, since there is a temple by that name in the nearby village of Thong Chai, is located at the north end of Ban Krud beach on Khao(hill) Thong Chai, Prachuap Khiri Khan. A large golden Buddha image dedicated to the Queen of Thailand is visible from some distance and is located about 500 meters below Wat Tang Sai. The walk up to the magnificent 9 pagoda Wat is along a steep path affording great views across the Gulf of Thailand, inland to the Thailand/Myanmar border and below the picturesque fishing harbour at Thong Chai.
There is also a shrine to the Prince of Chumphon, founder of the Thai Navy, located near the large Buddha image.
To get to Wat Tang Sai use Highway 4 from the North or South then use route 1029 from the North or route 1050 from the South and head for Ban Krud, you can’t miss the site once you hit Ban Krud.
There is no entrance charge to this temple or other attractions.
I revisited Wat Tang Sai April 2010- Several new photos added including one of the now complete Thai Giants that flank the entrance road.

Opinion:
A superbly developed site dedicated to the King and Queen of Thailand, very popular with Thai tourists, but few foreigners other than those staying at nearby Ban Krud ever see this magnificent temple. A photographers dream come true!
This would make a great day out with lunch and swimming on nearby Ban Krud beach.
