Wat Suthiwararam Samut Sakhon

Information and Directions:

Wat Suthiwararam(วัดสุทธิวาตวราราม) is located in Samut Sakhon in a pleasant setting on the banks of the Tha Chin River. The temple is quite large and has several buildings, including a large Ubsoth and adjacent wihan. There are lots of beautiful Buddha icons to see. Near the waterfront there is a very colourful Sala Thai, with superb geometric shapes.

I actually visited this temple whilst I was waiting with a Thai family who were taking a boat from the waterfront to scatter the ashes of a loved one(he was a fisherman) on the river. I saw several other families doing the same some of whom where accompanied by a monk from Wat Suthiwararam. My time at the temple was therefore limited.

Access to the temple and waterfront is actually by a road that divides the temple compound from a nearby school. There is adequate parking but this might be full at busy times like the weekend. Easy to find if you look for the Huge(clearly visible) waterfront located statue of the Madonna and child that are housed in the nearby grounds of a Catholic school.

Opinion:

A beautiful setting in the rather over industrialised town of Samut Sakhon. Sight seeing boat trips are also available from this location so a trip to the site could also provide the opportunity to get out on the river. Some good photographic opportunities. The temple is on the West bank of the Tha Chin River opposite Wat Samakee Sattharam.
